Day 1 - London to Dijon
We depart St Pancras International by Eurostar for Paris. After crossing the city by coach, we join the TGV service to Dijon, famous for its medieval half-timbered houses and the rich architectural legacy of the Dukes of Burgundy. We spend four nights in Dijon at the Mercure Dijon Clémenceau. We dine together this evening in the hotel. (D)
Day 2 - Discovering Dijon
This morning we discover Dijon, the capital of Burgundy, during a guided walking tour through the heart of the Old Town. The tour includes the 13th century church of Notre Dame and the elegant Palais des Ducs, the former Ducal Palace, parts of which date back to the 12th century. We visit the Musée des Beaux Arts, housed in a section of the Palace, to enjoy its superb collection of sculpture and paintings. Your afternoon is free to explore Dijon or visit the small Christmas Market. (B,D)
Day 3 - Château du Clos de Vougeot and Beaune
Today we head into the heart of Burgundy for a guided tour of the Château du Clos de Vougeot, a beautifully restored medieval château built by Cistercian monks set amid extensive vineyards. During the tour we discover its wine cellars and large wine presses dating back to the 13th century. After lunch in a local restaurant we travel to Beaune where we enjoy a guided visit of the Hospices de Beaune and a wine tasting in a local cellar. (B,L)
Day 4 - Day at leisure in Dijon
You are free to spend the day exploring at your leisure. Dijon is home to numerous museums and churches as well as great shopping and countless possibilities for lunch. (B,D)
Day 5 - Our journey home
We leave Dijon by TGV for Paris. After crossing the city by coach, we join the Eurostar service to St Pancras International. (B)
