Cologne at Christmas is a uniquely festive place. Christmas markets spring up in half a dozen locations, including the narrow streets of the old town, and offer a plethora of seasonal gifts, trinkets and decorations. See them for yourself on this wonderful festive city break.
Itinerary
Day One - Fly to Germany and transfer to your hotel. After check-in, you're free to explore. Why not enjoy the atmosphere of Cologne's celebrated old town, tucked between the Cathedral and the mighty Rhine, and its lively bars and cosy restaurants?
Day Two - Join our included walking tour, and see Cologne's soaring cathedral and lovingly restored old town surrounding it. Afterwards head to the historic 'Neumarkt' and 'Altermarkt' squares to wander the stalls, sip hot gluehwein, and sample tasty Bratwurst, spicy gingerbread and other unusual sweets at Cologne's two most beautiful Christmas markets.
Exploring elsewhere, you'll find still more festive distractions. From the 'fairytale market' in Rudolf Platz to the floating market in front of the Old Town and the ice skating on 'Heumarkt', all Cologne is abuzz with excitement.
Day Three - Today you're free to continue exploring Cologne, or to join our fascinating optional excursion to Ruedesheim. Spend the afternoon exploring the 120 stalls of Ruedesheim's famously pretty Christmas Market, and don't miss Europe's largest Nativity Scene in the town's market square.
