The magic of a traditional Christmas Market is casting more UK visitors under its spell every year. Historic Christmas Markets, held in cities, towns and villages are becoming increasingly popular, due, no doubt, to the enchanting festive atmosphere they evoke. The aromas of roast chestnuts and mulled wine, the sound of familiar, old tunes and little stalls piled with brightly coloured wares bathed in the glow of festive lights all help to create that exciting pre-Christmas atmosphere. Every year in the lead-up to advent, Innsbruck comes alive with the magic of Christmas, opening not one but two markets dedicated entirely to the festive season. Salzburg's traditional Christmas market takes place in the Cathedral and Residence Squares with stalls selling a wide display of gifts and street musicians performing on the steps of the cathedral.
