The enchanting island of Malta, situated in the heart of the Mediterranean, has an enviable sub-tropical climate which makes this an ideal destination to celebrate the Christmas festivities. This compact and colourful island has an absorbing history and fascinating culture. The beautiful capital of Valletta, built on a finger of land between two vast natural harbours, has some of the island’s best preserved architecture. The distinctive landscape provides a wealth of contrasts from the rugged coastline of the north shores to the scenic bays and sandy beaches in the south where the fishermen still follow the traditions of bygone days. We have selected the modern 5-star Intercontinental Malta Hotel, centrally located and ideally situated for easy exploration of the island.
Day 1 London • Malta
We begin with Titan’s VIP Home Departure Service™ to London Gatwick Airport and your direct scheduled AirMalta flight, to Malta. On arrival you will be transferred to the Intercontinental Malta, our base for the next six nights.
Day 2 Christmas Eve • Valletta
After breakfast, we embark on a morning tour through the bustling streets of Valletta, Malta’s attractive 16th century capital. We start with a visit to the Barracca Gardens that command a breathtaking panorama of Grand Harbour. We continue to St John’s Cathedral, adorned in riches that date back to the time of the Knights of Malta and then to the Grand Master’s Palace, where there is time to see the staterooms. Lastly we visit the “Malta Experience”, an audio visual show which depicts Malta’s history through the ages. In addition to the street lights and Christmas trees, the Maltese specialise in the construction of cribs - some mechanised - and this afternoon we take a tour to view these. We return to our hotel this evening for a festive dinner. For those wishing to participate in the Christmas Eve celebrations, your local representative will have details of the services held at the local churches.
Day 3 Christmas Day • St. Julians
The whole day is free to enjoy the festive spirit at your hotel. After a leisurely morning a seasonal Christmas Day lunch may be enjoyed, after which why not stroll along the waterfront of St. Julians Bay, where you will be able to see an attractive array of fishing boats. This evening, dinner will be at your hotel.
Day 4 Boxing Day • St. Julians
Today, some may like to take the optional tour to one of the sister islands, Gozo, the legendary island of the Goddess Calypso, which is only a short boat journey from the north of the island. Alternatively you may wish to relax and enjoy the comfort and facilities at your hotel. Dinner is served at the hotel this evening.
Day 5 The Three Cities
This morning we embark on a journey to the central region of Malta. The walled city of Mdina, dominated by the ancient citadel, has a unique atmosphere and as we pass through the narrow streets we can admire the magnificent cathedral and imposing bastions that command a magnificent view over most of the island. Through the “Greek Gate” we enter the suburb of Rabat with a short stop at the catacombs before proceeding to the cliffs at Dingli. After lunch we visit the botanical gardens of San Anton and Mosta’s parish church renowned for its imposing dome. Finally, we arrive at the craft centre of Ta’Qali, where there is time for shopping.
Day 6 Mdina • Rabat
We commence our tour to discover the ancient harbour towns known as The Three Cities. Cospicua, the youngest of the three, is our first stop after which we continue to the city of Vittoriosa. Entering through the “Three Gates” our walking tour takes us along the narrow shaded streets where many eye-catching historical buildings and churches can be admired. The last of these great towns is Senglea and from the “Vadette” there are wonderful panoramic views over Grand Harbour to Valletta, which emphasises the strategic importance of the area. Travelling on, later in the day, we visit the fishing village of Marsaxlokk. We return to the hotel for an afternoon at leisure. St. Julians has a variety of dining venues where you can sample traditional Maltese cuisine this evening.
